looking at a new mouse or keyboard? Looking at purchasing a new computer? Want to build your own but not sure what to get? Can figure out what makes something better than the other? Ask your questions here. Anything from simple what to get questions to Complete Computer Builds i can do it all.
NOTE: If you asking about a purchase be sure to tell me your budget.
I'm not planning on upgrading or buying, but what are you thoughts as far as the AMD vs. Intel debate goes? Which do you prefer...or do you go both ways? :D

I prefer Intel and generally always have. Intel dominates and has since the Core 2 Architechture and its gotten nothing but better with its new Nehalem Architecture AKA Core i7. Untill AMD can pull their heads out of their asses Intel will dominate.

That comes down to.
560.92 Im using the fans you posted as well which prolly arent needed at all with the case i used.
Ill explain why i picked what i did.
Coolermaster case was picked because its cheap and name brand with a good warranty that youll likely never have to use. The case looks way better and is likely built better as in structure but by design and layout as well. The one you picked looks like a space ship. :)
The PSU i picked because ill only build using corsair Power Supplies. They are the leader in the PSU industry. I used to pick PC Power and Cooling but OCZ bought them out. I hate OCZ products because they are midrange products marked up to high end prices. Their power supplies have a 80% failure rate and now that they own PC Power and Cooling They failure rate has skyrocketed as well. Corsair for Power Supplies....You cant go wrong.
The motherboard i have is a Asus P5N-D. It has a nvidia SLI chipset in it so overclocking CPU, Memory and Video cards is possible. It also does SLI and have much better upgradability than the uATX board you chose. This one also supports double the memory the one you picked does.
The CPU is a entry level Core 2 Duo. Core 2s are beasts and overclock great. You also have the ability to upgrade to a better core 2 duo, a Core 2 Quad or even a Core 2 Extreme later on down the road.
I picked the ram because the ram you had wasnt a standard memory rating. Ive never heard of PC8800 DDR2-1100. The motherboard you had selected doesnt default to that and im betting wouldnt even like that ram since it runs odd speeds. If it did work it would have underclocked itself to run at the default speed. You have to overclock to get it that high. Also picked corsair because they are the best in Memory. The highest and best overclockers out there always use corsair.
I picked the GPU because you had the GTS250. The GTS 250 is a renamed and marked up 9800 series card. I picked out a factory overclocked 9800GTX+ card for 5 bucks more. Its EVGA so it will have a lifetime warranty. EVGA makes great products. Again they have the awesome warranty that youll prolly never use but is there. EVGA ships overclocking with their cards from the factory so you can overclock it.
I picked that DVDRW because its dirt cheap and has been reviewed as the best DVDRW on the market. It comes with software as well.
Case fans. I included them in the price just for fun. You likely wont need them at all. That core i7 computer i built used the 2 factory 120mm fans on the case with no problem. I could actually turn them off and it would stay cool for a while. Unless you having cooling problems dont worry about fans. As for high CFM check the sound rating cause they can be loud. I have a set of 85 CFM 80mm fans and they can be heard in another room when i have the fan controller set to low.
Basically i speced this computer out using all mid range name brand products that i know will perform. for 40 more than yours. 32 of that being the DVDRW.

i like the looks of the case i picked so maybe...
the psu even though it is better im going to have to say no because its double the price..
but i did go with a better one
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4435075&sku=T13-1115
after a mir its the same price
the mb and cpu i would have to say no because i want to use amd... the amd phenom 2 x2 that i chose is faster, has double the catch, and almost double the fsb. not to mention it is $20 cheaper and you can oc it just as well expeciall if i decide to get the black edition with an unlocked multiplier
if i even decide to oc anything
and with the mb i dont really need anything special hence y i chose a biostar mb. i dont need double the ram slots either because im not going to be running any more than 4gb
the ram i am going to have to say no because there is no heat spreader so it will run kinda hot and im not going to use the ocz ill use these
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4242488&CatId=3413
the video card im going to have to say no because the one you chose has 512mb ram and the 250 is 1gb. plus the 250 has faster clocks and as you said is cheaper.
and the dvd burner id prolly have to say yeh because the one i chose is no longer available
and the 120mm fans are 90cfm at 19dba... i would wrather have more fans because the cooler it runs the better it runs.
with all of my choices i actually brought the price down to 520

im sorry about doubting you ricky but the only reason i chose those parts is because yes they are cheaper but i wanted to run a amd based system. i chose that psu because i just put a 400w coolmax in my gfs comp that ive had and have been using for 5 years now. i dont doubt that you are a professional computer technition i do respect your choices and i dont doubt that the 9800gtx is the same but the one you chose is only a 512mb and i wanted at least a 1gb yes i will look at getting a evga but the pny is the first one i found so thats y i chose it. but i rose my budget to 600 and these are the new parts i chose going along with the better brands that you chose.

Its the fact that you asked me about the build, i reconstructed it using top quality name brand parts making it an all around better computer. for 20 bucks more. I dont deal with AMD because honestly anything after the Athlon XP series is complete garbage. You want 1GB of GPU RAM but that card wont ever use that much. I used the card i suggested with CSS on the absolute max settings and got well over 500FPS. You say the AMD FSB is twice as fast. Its diff technology. Intel Core 2 architecture used the old bus technology and still beat AMD. Core I7 is using AMDs FSB Technology and totally making them look stupid. AMDs dont overclock like Intels. All AMD CPUs are like Celerons. The ram for not having a heat spreader? LOL you will never get ram hot with systems like this. The thing is, i know for a fact i could build the system i speced out and it would be faster than the one you spec. Ive been playing with computers since the 486. In fact i was the only one in my class who knew anything about legacy computer hardware and server platforms.
After all that and the fact you want an AMD i cant help you. You get what you pay for.

LOLZ! don't worry Tank, I got the same basic run down, on a thread like this on the RS site.
* as another suggestion,...Get a Socket T mobo and a decent quad core. make sure you get a BTX case, or you'll be shitty if ya don't!
A socket T(BTX stands for : Balanced Technology Extended, supports Intel 775 cpu's. Dual/Quad. DDR2. PCi-Express, Sata,.. etc. And they are CHEAP.* well, most are. Here is on at this site :
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=BOXD945GCZLR&cat=MBB
Get a Intel Quad Core,* or core 2 dou or Dual Core,.. whatever,... slap in some fast ram, a decent vcard, and the most important, a BTX case. See they make em ass backwards. *they thought it would aid in keeping the heat inside the case/system lower if they made it this way. or something like that.
here's a nice bare bone kit, *same case Dell/Gateway uses for the XPS 410 series pc's.
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=GW-FX-250-D915GMH&cpc=SCH
IDK much about socket T except they are ass backwards. Look at one BTX mobo and a regular ATX mobo, you will see what I mean.
My daughter's Gatway XPS 410, mobo crapped out, Gateway techs are over paid dorks, and there company wont stand by their warranty and replace the mobo, even after 5 home visits from a tech. "oh it must be the video card, here, try a new one" *of the same model. Hey, dumbass Gateway/Dell guy, maybe after 5 new video cards, you might of thought it was the PCI-Express slot that was crappin out? ZOMG! IDIOTS!!
IDK. i had to rage on them IDIOTS at Gateway!
Tank, get what whatever you think you will be happy with. And game on bro!!

AMD is priced for a modest gamer. If you think there junk, that's fine. but they work. You get what you pay for. But dont get all high end and in the END, you have something that is worth NOTHING!!

Anyway yea. Chemo I don't think Ricky is saying that AMD doesn't have it's uses. But if he wants to shell out money for a good quality computer, Intel is the way to go, without a doubt.
Especially when a better performing intel system can be had for just 20 dollars more.
I dunno WTF chemo is talking about with BTX and Socket T.
As for 2 years having junk? Core 2 is on its 5th year and you can still buy them. Far from obsolete. AMD comes out with a new Socket every year now. making their products obsolete much faster.
If you dont have anything to ask and are truly seeking advice then dont post in here or ill remove the thread.

*it's just old, and really never caught on, They just stuck with regular ATX for form factor. Kinda of a "fad" that lasted maybe two years.

Socket H is LGA 1156 , LGA 1156 is Socket H.

Any Stand alone graphics card is better than on board graphics. But the S60 seems like it will have the same performance. If its free take it and give it a shot.

How much ram does your current one have? Graphics accelerator is what they used to be called. This is pretty old hardware. Now almost every computer has a graphics card. Im gonna forcast that if there is a gain it will be marginal, there is a possibility you might loose some performance, but i think it will be about the same. like i said. its free give it a shot.
Edit do you just have PCI slots in your computer or doy ou have AGP or PCI Express?
If your not sure just post the make and model of the computer.

ever think about a new mobo? what CPU do you have ? think about a newer one ? How old is your current pc ? for 250, you can get a new cpu, mobo, and a low end pci-e video card. just depends on your " standards" >INTEL, AMD, Nivida, ATI,...

If you have AGP here is your best option.

Let's help you out a bit with selecting items. First off, notice the GDDR2 in the 9600GSO of your choice. Dont do that ;) Secondly, TigerDirect, try a more reputable place like NewEgg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121320
ASUS 9600GSO GDDR3 512Mb for only $54. Would eat out that one you listed.
Or you could spend $5 more for something better that is nearly on-par with the 8800GT.
ASUS 9600GT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121324)
i dont think he understands. He picked the shittier GPU over the one i recomended cause it had 1GB of Ram, when a GTS250 and a 9800 card doesnt need the Ram size but the ram speed.
Like i said before. I was able to get 500FPS out of CSS with a 9800GTX+. thats pretty much a slightly overclocked/glorified 8800GT. Not bad for old technology.

Tank, i was pointing out that you were picking video cards based on the amount of memory it had which isnt the best thing to do.
If you want the best yoou need to think higher.

Thats all stock coolers with no aftermarket cooling or extra fans.
Net results around 3.80GHz on the CPU and prolly about 15% on the GPU clocks
Want aftermarket air cooling and fans? add about 550 more to that.
Net results around 4.0GHZ on the CPU and around 20% on the GPU.
Want watercooling? add around 1400 to that.
Net results around 4.6GHz on the CPU and around 30% on the GPU.
Want me to go ahead and end this?
In my vocational computer class they asked us to build the most espensive computer possible. 2nd place was a 14K alienware Computer. I took 1st place with this.

Ok seriously, Tank, STOP giving advice.... No offense, but you don't know too much about what you are posting.
A Q8200 is the lowest of low end and is easily beaten by just grabbing an E8400 E0 stepping for around the same price.
AGAIN, stop going to TigerDirect. TigerDirect is notorious for bad RMA service + customer service.
Learn2NewEgg.
You also don't know what the best of anything is. You post first off from TigerDirect, but not only that, you post brands like AOC??? Are you kidding me? TigerDirect doesnt even sell the best of anything. Monitor wise, the best would be from Dell, IPS panel as Ricky showed you in the 30" flavor ;) My personal favorite for what I use is the Dell 2209WA 22" IPS panel, can catch it on sale for $220 and as low as $212.
i chose the 8200 because its still a c2q and its cheap. its a 2.33 quad core... whats the problem with that...... if you actually read the the other posts youd realize that the PDC i chose is $85 and he said he had the ram and hdd that saved him another $92. 85+92=177 which means yes i coulda chose the 8400. you know some people cant always buy the best parts. and as for tigetdirect... i have never had a problem with them in the all times ive ordered from them. you dont have to pay for sales tax and the item is usually sitting at my door in 3 days. whats so bad about that. and idk about you but sitting 2 ft away from 60in of screen might just annoy the hell outa me. but did you even look at the specs of the monitor i put up.... its an LED monitor with 100,000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms response time. you cant get any better than that. im sorry if its not the best brand

what browser?
internet explorer 8
I think I can clear up some of the confusion, Tank.
In technology, its easy to get caught on on specs. For example, there are dozens of mp3 players out there that are better than the iPod. More storage, better screen, cheaper, faster, etc., but the iPod is better not because of what its specs are; that's why its managed to capture over 70% of all mp3 player sales.
That said, you need to take more into account than the price/speed/no sales tax, etc. and look at the technology used, reliability, and performance. That's what counts.
